CONSENT AGENDA - No Items
CURRENT BUSINESS
1. Review and Action - Board
of Canvassers. The City Council will sit as a Board of Canvassers
for the November 4, 2003 Municipal General Election for the purpose of
certifying the election results.
Mr. Dameron reviewed the procedures for canvassing the election results
with the Council. He explained that there were minor discrepancies, such
as missing ballots, in one district, but that these discrepancies would
only make a difference if the election was very close. He presented the
books and reports for the precincts to the Council. The number of voters
that voted in the election was verified. The provisional and absentee
ballots were examined. The voter register was inspected. Mr. Dameron noted
that some of the voter registers had been combined by the County Elections
Office and that this practice would not be continued in future elections.
It had created some confusion.
(Councilmember Acerson arrived at 5:50 p.m.)
Mr. Dameron explained that the combining of districts may have contributed
to the missing ballots. Councilmember Dain opened and counted the provisional
ballot for precinct #5, the only precinct that had any provisional ballots.
An additional vote each for Lindsey Bayless, Bruce Carpenter and Jerald
Hatch was recorded. The reconciliation of the total number of ballots
in District #3 was corrected. This correction did not affect the total
number of ballots certified, just corrected some accounting errors.
(Councilmember Dain was excused at 6:05 p.m.)
