Lindon City Police Department – A New Beginning
Welcome to our place in history. Without over dramatizing it, this moment and the next few months are certainly historic as we work hard to put together our very own Lindon City Police Department.
I should introduce myself first, although many of you will already know me. My name is Cody Cullimore. I’ve been serving Lindon City for almost 27 years as Captain and an Officer of the Pleasant Grove Police Department. Recently I was selected by Mayor Dain and the City Council to serve as Chief of Police and to work to establish the new Lindon City Police Department.
I am a native of Lindon, the fourth generation on both sides of my family to be raised here. The first set weren’t born here, they were sent south to settle the outlying valleys by Brigham Young after crossing the plains. Both sides of my family are represented on the plaque in Lindon’s Pioneer Park, and I’m related to almost all of the other names engraved there. For good or bad, nobody’s been in Lindon longer than my family tree. I see that as a personal responsibility to represent well my heritage and the people, in what I can honestly say is my hometown. I am married to my best friend, a Pleasant Grove girl named Debbie Sorenson. We have grown up together and celebrate our four children, three of whom are living, while one of our sons passed away as an infant, and our three grandchildren. Our married son and grandkids live in Lindon, the oldest attending Lindon Elementary, where I went. Debbie and I now live in Pleasant Grove where our youngest daughter is in 9th grade at P.G. Junior.
Why am I telling you this? Because I believe that if you are going to entrust me to protect your property and your very lives, you should know a little about me. I want you to know that I’m approachable. I’m most comfortable if you call me Cody. I am committed to making myself available to work with any issue as we move forward together. I’m very serious about the fact that we are doing this together, as a united community.
The police department that I envision for Lindon will be responsive to the concerns of our citizens, and I hope that you will be receptive to the concerns and actions of the police department, citizens will have much more of an active role in their public safety than ever before. Officers will be assigned to be personal contacts for neighborhoods. Though unfamiliar now, many of you will have the opportunity to be involved with the programs and concepts of CERT, NIMS, CPTED and VIPS. You will talk with Mountain Bike officers on your street, your children will know department officers from school and city functions and you will hopefully feel that you are a valuable part of the complete Lindon City public safety effort. Traffic and special crime enforcement efforts will be focused and direct. You can reach me anytime by email, chief@lindoncity.org, and I will work to resolve every concern, as will any officer working for me.
Watch for much more in the near future from your police department. Work this winter will be underway to do everything from choosing police cars to creating a work space and buying paper, desks and bullets. In the spring we will begin the prospect of recruiting and hiring police officers. We are committed to a start-up date of July 1, 2008 for your Lindon City Police Department to begin to serve you.
Until that time our police issues will still be served by Chief Tom Paul and the very capable and professional personnel of the Pleasant Grove Police Department.
I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you as we move forward to what is truly a historic, new beginning.
Cody Cullimore
Chief of Police
