Newsletter Article February 2008

As I write this article, we are experiencing an absolute white-out blizzard here at the City Center. It’s about the fifth storm in a row. Cars on Lindon Hill are driving 5 mph and sliding off State Street and it seems that winter will never end! Driving conditions this year have been the worst that I ever remember. The valiant round-the-clock efforts of our Public Works guys just don’t seem to be enough as Mother Nature has her way with us. Please use caution on the roads, especially during bad weather incidents. If we make it through this winter we’ll all be professional snow-drivers.

There is a lot of progress with the police department. We are currently in the midst of developing an operating budget for our first fiscal year. Construction is about to start on our office space with a scheduled completion date of May 15th. Much of the equipment is in and the rest has been ordered. In the next couple of months, I will be selecting and hiring the Police Officers and Staff who will serve you as the new Lindon City Police Department.

Excitement in the community is high. Every where I go in town I am surprised at the interest that people have in the police department development. I have been attending the Mayor’s Open House gatherings and the level of interest, the willingness to get involved and the ownership of community concerns that have been shown by our citizens has been gratifying. There is little wonder why Lindon is such a great community. We have great citizens! If you haven’t attended an open house please come out to one. You’ll have a casual, fun, interesting and hopefully informative evening. The next meeting is scheduled for February 12th. It will be held at the Nolte home, 415 North 800 East at 6:30 pm.
I wish to thank the Nolte’s and everyone else who has opened their homes to us. This is another example of the type of involvement that makes a healthy community.

Also this month, I wish to compliment you, all of the parents of our community, for the children that you’ve raised. I have worked closely with our schools for many years and believe me, I’ve seen all types of kids. I recently had the privilege to address all of the students at Oak Canyon Junior High in a series of assemblies. I was impressed with your student’s courtesy, their respect and their commitment to be good people. I’ve also spoken with the school administrators, who tell me of the student’s constant efforts and abilities. I was completely surprised when I was introduced and it was announced that Lindon was forming our own police department and your kids Cheered! That is sure a different response than my generation of junior high students would have shown!

Please plan on attending two events which will be held in June. One is the open house of our new police department facilities, and the other will be a “Meet the Department” night at which we will introduce you to your new officers and you will see much of our new equipment and vehicles. Details of these events will be forthcoming.
Thanks you again for all that you do.
